The Washington
Torah

THE FIRST TORAH EVER TO BE WRITTEN COMPLETELY IN WASHINGTON DC

One of the important precepts in our Torah is for new Torah scrolls to be written. Since the transmission of Torah values from one generation to the next forms the core of Jewish survival through the ages, this time honored practice has been celebrated through the years, as this text has survived for millennia - since Sinai - with no deviation in its wording.

Since not everyone has the training, resources or means to write their own Torah scroll, many participate in the custom of obtaining their own letter, passage or section in a Torah along with many others, thus owning their part in forming a communal effort to write a new Torah scroll, which they can then also call their own.

For the first time in history, a new Torah scroll is being written entirely in Washington, DC. Special phrases and passages have been and will be inscribed in prominent locations across the nation's capital, relevant to those passages. There is a great deal of communal excitement, as men, women and children of all ages and backgrounds join together in this historic effort, connecting with so many generation of those who came before us, in creating another scroll of this timeless sacred text.

Locations where phrases have been and will be especially inscribed include the White House, the Capitol, the Supreme Court, the Pentagon, Departments of Justice, Health and Human Services, Labor, Housing and Urban Development, Agriculture, Education, and Energy, National Institutes of Health, the National Zoo, national museums, local government agencies, hospitals and parks, and other relevant landmarks and locations.
